In the Shop: Kent Single Coil

My buddy @gbwells picked up this POS guitar at an auction, and let’s just say he either overpaid or found a creative way to make someone take it off their hands. This thing was in rough shape—definitely a “project” piece. But hey, I like a challenge, so I decided to see if I could breathe some life back into it.

It’s an old Kent guitar from the 60s, equipped with a single-coil pickup that, surprisingly, still works! Though I’ll admit, I was a little hesitant about cleaning it at first—it looked like it hadn’t seen a rag or polish in decades, and I worried I might catch something just handling it. But after some careful cleaning, it’s starting to shine (well, at least compared to how it arrived).

The pickup seems promising, but there’s still a lot of work to do to bring this thing back to playable condition. From the electronics to the hardware, it’s going to need some serious TLC. Restoring vintage guitars like this is always an adventure, and I’m curious to see if I can get it fully functional. Stay tuned—I’ll keep you updated on its transformation!
